VMware Cloud Foundation 9: New Support Model and Release Cadence Explained

With VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9, Broadcom introduced a defined release cadence and an updated support model. This provides clear lifecycle timelines for each release in the 9.x family.

Release Cadence

  • VCF 9.0, 9.1, and 9.2 – Each version is supported for 27 months.
  • VCF 9.3 – The final release in the 9.x line, supported for 45 months.

Extended Support

An optional 12 months of Extended Support can be added beyond the standard lifecycle. This extension applies to any of the VCF 9.x releases, providing additional time before moving to the next version.

Lifecycle Structure

The support phases are:

  • General Availability → End of General Support (27 or 45 months depending on release).
  • Extended Support (optional +12 months).
  • End of Support after the lifecycle concludes.

Summary

The new model standardizes support windows across all VCF 9.x releases. Each minor release has a defined 27-month lifecycle, while the final release in the series (9.3) carries a longer 45-month period. Extended Support is available for organizations that require more time beyond the standard lifecycle.
